About the Position

The Redland Company is seeking a reliable and motivated Construction Survey Rodperson / Instrument Person to join our survey field team.

This position will primarily support construction surveying, construction layout, and as-built operations throughout South Florida. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working on active construction sites, understands the importance of accuracy, and is interested in developing their skills within the surveying profession.

Candidates with previous survey experience are preferred; however, we are also willing to consider individuals with construction experience, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assist the Party Chief with daily survey field operations
  • Set up and operate robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, data collectors, and other survey equipment
  • Hold rods, prisms, and other equipment during survey operations
  • Set stakes, hubs, nails, offsets, benchmarks, and other construction layout points
  • Assist with building, roadway, utility, drainage, curb, sidewalk, parking, and site layout
  • Assist with utility, roadway, paving, and site as-built surveys
  • Locate survey control, benchmarks, property corners, and field monuments
  • Collect accurate field measurements and survey data
  • Assist with maintaining clear and organized field notes
  • Load, unload, clean, organize, and maintain survey equipment
  • Maintain company vehicles and field equipment in an organized and professional manner
  • Work safely around heavy equipment, traffic, excavations, and active construction operations
  • Communicate effectively with Party Chiefs, Project Managers, contractors, inspectors, and other field personnel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in land surveying, construction surveying, or construction layout is preferred
  • Previous experience as a Rodperson, Instrument Person, Survey Technician, or Survey Crew Member is a plus
  • Experience operating robotic total stations and GPS/GNSS equipment is preferred
  • Familiarity with Topcon surveying equipment and data collectors is a plus
  • Ability to read construction plans and understand basic construction terminology is preferred
  • Basic understanding of elevations, measurements, offsets, and construction layout
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently as part of a survey crew
  • Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work outdoors throughout South Florida

Physical Requirements

This is an active field position. Candidates should be able to:

  • Walk and stand for extended periods
  • Work on uneven terrain and active construction sites
  • Carry survey equipment, stakes, tools, and supplies
  • Bend, kneel, dig, hammer stakes, and perform normal survey field activities
  • Work outdoors in South Florida heat, sun, rain, and changing weather conditions
